There are two options available here. Pick the one you feel you will get more out of.

1. Find a volunteer and interview them
Carry out a 10-minute interview to find out what they do and what they get out of volunteering. You might want to record it and make it into a podcast, or write it up as a blog if you have one. Learn how to set up a blog or create your own podcast with our handy how to guides. Alternatively, you might want to turn the interview into an article either for yourself, or, if it's appropriate, the local paper.

After doing the interview, ask yourself the following questions:

2. Interview someone you admire
Who do you most admire and why? What is it that makes them tick? You might want your interview to include a mix of probing and incidental questions - some suggestions are featured below, but they could be anything.

  • Who do you most admire and why?
  • Describe true happiness.
  • Have you ever said I love you and not meant it?
  • What's the best thing about work?
  • What do you always carry with you?
  • What are you afraid of?
  • What are the most important qualities in life?
  • What do you regret?

What next?

Consider the following:

Thinking about the people we admire is inspirational in itself, but by thinking about the qualities we admire in others, we can focus on the things we want to aim for ourselves.

Interviews like these also remind us that no matter how much we might put someone on a pedestal, they have hopes and fears just like us.
