It's generally agreed that in the grand scheme of things, today's over 50s are the luckiest generation that ever lived.
We've benefited from the welfare state, a decent education system and the housing boom. Thanks to generally good nutrition, advances in technology and a still-enviable National Health Service, we'll live significantly longer, healthier lives than those who've gone before.
